New York Fashion Week happened twice in 2026. The brands that benefited most never walked a runway.

NYFW is a trade event first — buyers, editors and stylists seeing next season's collections. But for everyone else it has become one of the biggest content moments of the year. For a few days, fashion dominates feeds, search and conversation, and brands of every size can borrow that attention if they plan for it.

2026 at a glance

  • February (Fall/Winter 2026): the week ran February 11–16, opening with Rachel Scott's runway debut for Proenza Schouler, with Ralph Lauren showing the day before the official start.
  • September (Spring/Summer 2027): the official schedule ran September 10–15, with Ralph Lauren again showing on the eve of the week. Around 70 runway shows and presentations appeared on the CFDA calendar, plus more by appointment and online.
  • New creative directors. Henry Zankov's debut for Diane von Furstenberg opened September's official schedule, and Thom Browne closed it.
  • Debuts and returns. September brought first-time shows from names including Sabyasachi, Magda Butrym and Conner Ives, and returns from Monse, threeASFOUR and Tommy Hilfiger.
  • Fur-free. September 2026 was the first season with the CFDA's fur-free policy in effect for every brand on the official schedule — a clear signal of where the industry's values, and its customers, are heading.
  • A moment of respect. With the week falling on the 25th anniversary of September 11, the Friday schedule started later in the morning.

What the week taught brands outside the tents

  1. The show is only the start of the content. Backstage, arrivals, street style and the “getting ready” clips out-travelled the runway footage itself. Attention goes to people and moments, not catwalk wide shots.
  2. Creators are the new front row. Much of the audience experienced NYFW through creators' phones. Brands that equipped creators with product, access or a story got coverage without a runway.
  3. Creative director debuts drive conversation. New leadership at established houses gives people something to have an opinion about. Opinions drive comments and shares far more than finished looks.
  4. Values are part of the product. The fur-free rule shows sustainability and sourcing are no longer side notes. Customers notice what a brand stands for, especially in fashion.

How to use fashion week if you are not showing

  • Plan content for the week in advance: trend commentary, “how we'd style it”, and your own take on the season's themes. Search interest in fashion spikes during the week; see social search.
  • Dress creators who are attending. A street-style photo in your piece is worth more than an ad. Put it in writing — deliverables, usage rights and disclosure. See influencer contracts.
  • Make it shoppable. Give attending creators affiliate links or codes so the attention turns into sales. More in affiliate marketing.
  • Host something small and specific. A breakfast, a styling appointment, a showroom hour for buyers and editors. Intimate events create more content and more relationships than trying to compete with the big shows. See activations that convert.
  • Pitch the right story to press in the weeks before, not during, when editors are overloaded. See digital PR.

A note for Miami brands

September's shows present spring and summer collections — exactly the resort, swim and warm-weather clothing Miami brands live on. It is the natural moment to tell New York buyers and editors what summer looks like from here, and to line up the October-to-April season at home. Our Miami fashion marketing guide covers the local calendar, and NYC spring events covers the rest of New York's season.

Planning for February 2027

  • Now to December: decide your goal — press, wholesale buyers, content or sales — and budget for it. Our 2027 budget guide helps.
  • Six to eight weeks out: confirm creators, product, any event venue and the content plan.
  • Two to four weeks out: press outreach, invitations, shoppable links ready.
  • During the week: post daily, repost creators, reply fast.
  • The week after: recap content, follow up with every buyer and editor you met, and measure what drove sales.

The bottom line

NYFW 2026 showed that fashion week is now as much a content and creator moment as a runway one. You do not need a show to benefit — you need a plan, the right creators, a shoppable link and a story worth telling.
